Vista User Account Control Cannot find path specified

by joe . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

trying to help a friend out, anytime she (or i) tries to launch a program that has the little shield on it (requires elevation) a error pops up saying “C:\program path\program name.exe” (insert appropriate fields) can not find the specified path. However if i right click the program and then click run as administrator i get the UAC prompt and everything runs fine. Now this would be a workaround but if you need to install an update such as adobe reader as example cause it just happened you would have to drill down through 6 folders to find the update manager and right click run as to get it to work.

If i disable UAC the problem goes away. If i am logged in to vista via safe mode the problem doesn’t exist

User has full admin rights to the computer

recently was infected with the Downloader.Fraudload virus as well as Trojan Horse SHeur.CFBY and Trojan Horse Generic_c.vcz All were removed and detected clean from AVG, Trendmicro and Panda Online scanners
No Other infections found, no malware or spyware found

Don’t know if they are related or not but it has to be something with UAC
