Download it onto your desktop and then right click on it and chose “properties > Compatibility”, tick the box that says “run this program in compatibility mode” and select “windows XP SP2” option. When done you can then click on your printer install software. Vista at the moment still has not got ALL of the drivers for your hardware yet but it is getting there.
      Hope this helps you.

Just because you can’t find the driver in a list doesn’t mean that Vista’s generic driver won’t work. 🙂

I did some research, very few BJC series printers are listed as being supported by Vista.

When I searched for FAQs for the BJC250 series on the Canon Web site, I found this:

“Issue: Does my product support Windows Vista?

      ——————————————————————————–
Solution: Windows Vista Compatibility information (Non-supported Printers)

Unfortunately this product is not supported with the Windows Vista Operating System
Unfortunately, this printer is not supported in the Windows Vista environment. This includes both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista.
However, as a valued Canon customer, we would like to offer you the Canon Loyalty Program which allows you to upgrade your product, at discounted pricing, to one of our current products that does support Windows Vista. To take advantage of this option, please contact our technical support department during regular business hours (currently Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 midnight. EST, excluding holidays).”

Generally speaking, if it has been more than 3 years since the manufacture last sold the printer, do not expect there to be drivers for it with a new version of Windows.

Consider needing to get a new printer a “hidden” upgrade cost.

      Vista Driver

You can try the XP, 2000 driver and may get lucky.. But good luck with that… I would just recommend buying a new printer for 60 to 150.00 you will be a lot hapier and end a potential nightmare.

Here is your link to the older Version of Cannon Drivers that may work – Keep in mind this not the recommended way to go.

But you need to attach the printer to the computer and see if Vista detects new Hardware and installs a driver for it. If it does you will only have the Default Vista Driver which will in all likelihood not provide you with full functionality that was available with older versions of Window but it will work.

Personally however I wouldn’t expect Vista to work with a printer this old and you really need to replace the printer with a new one. Ideally if you use a lot of Color look at one of the printers with separate Color Cartridges as they can be replaced individually as they become exhausted unlike the BJC250 Color Cartridge which needs replacing when 1 color is exhausted. The Canon Ip4500 is the cheapest replacement Ink Jet printer than comes with Separate ink Tanks in the Canon Range and retails for $169.00 AU according to the Canon Web Site here

If you chose to use the Canon Loyalty Program it will be slightly cheaper or you can look at another brand of printer.

What I’m a bit confused about is that the BJC250 has a Parallel Interface and all of the new computers that come preloaded with Vista do not have this interface so how are you connecting it to the computer? If you are using a USB to Centronics Adapter you need to install the Vista Drivers for the Adapter before turning on the printer but with the cost of the interface it would be cheaper to buy a new printer.
