Visual Basic 6 Packaging and Deployment

By ebartholom ·
I have successfully used the VB6 Package & Deployment wizard in the past. I am currently attempting to deploy to a client and I get the message "The file c:\Windows\TEMP\msftqws.pdw\$(DLLSelf RegisterEx) could not be found" Then a msgbox opens telling me a serious installation problem occurred and the installation is unsuccessful. This has happened on two client PCs. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

Take a look at Q208699 at support.microsoft.com for a possible explanation.

Good luck

I found a solution to my own problem, but I'd like to share it with anyone that could benefit. I took an inventory of the files that were included in the Package Support folder and compared them to the files that matched the components, references, designers and insertable objects in my project. It was interesting to discover that the Package and Deployment Wizard had not included several essential files. Most notably, the ADO dlls to support my ADO code/connections/commands and more suprisingly, the dll that supports the data environment designer. (We have a large project with several developers - all are new to VB6 - We started our project using the data environment and then graduated to ADO code as we learned more about the language).

Hi,

I think that this can due to other application running behind the Back ground as Some programs are automatically delete all the temp files located in windows\temp directory, and while running package on the system it will create some temp files Place it in windows\temp directory if the program as above is running then I may cause this type of Error.

So before installation Close All the application that are running and tey then after.

I don't no it will work but this may be the possibility.

All the Best.
