I have a Crystal Soundfusion(tm) CS4281 WDM audio card, under Windows 2000. I listen very low when I connect my phones in the card, but when I connect my phones in the CD-Unit, I listen very good and high. The volume control for Windows it's full, and volume control of Winamp, it's full too. I have a driver for these card. What happen with the card.

No High Level Amp

by TheChas In reply to Volume

Most modern sound cards no longer have a high level audio amplifier on them.

They are almost universally line level devices.

As a rough approximation, line level devices have impeadances of 1000 ohms or greater.

High level devices have impeadances of 100 ohms or less.

The solution, get a small audio amplifier, or a set of cheap amplified speakers with a headphone jack.
