VPN and Network Neighbourhood.

By iamsanchez ·
Have configured Linux Propriatory Installation from Cybernet/NetMax. I have clients running the Client VPN license and keys. Clients are able to telnet any Linux server(with nonrouteable IP addresses) inside the firewall, they are able to see their home accounts and do their work as if they were inside my company's network. The only problem I'm having is that, clients are not able to see other computers (win machines), even using the "find computer" feaure inside the company's network. Through dialup networking is possible to see those computers, not by navigating using the network neighbourhood, but by using the "find computer" feature.

I've tried every possible combination of options, but have not been successful.

Any ideas?
Rafael.

VPN and Network Neighbourhood.

Not sure about your VPN product, but from my VPN experiences, if you want to be able to browse the network, you will need to ensure that the remote clients get a WINS address.

This is because Windows clients expect to use the server's WINS / DNS settings and will do that quite religiously.

The way I present the WINS server *I* want the clients to use (read WINS = Browse List) is to shove this line in /etc/ppp/options (replace x.y.z.a with a valid WINS server - ie NT Domain controller).
ms-wins=x.y.z.a

If you do not have a domain controller, install samba on the gateway and enable it's WINS support. If you are worried about security, use

bind interfaces only = true
interfaces = eth0, (vpn interface)

Good Luck
