VPN Causing Re-Activation

By Gooser12 ·
Presently we are having problems where people VPN from home and Microsoft office asks for activation. On a direct login to the machine it is already activated and nothing comes up but when VPN is done, activation is required and the user is locked out from using all the functions of office.

I recommend switching from a VPN environment to Citrix Metaframe.

well, the problem centers on profiles. They have one for local machine and one for when they log on to the network. they need to have their local profile loaded when connected to the network for office to work.

to clarify, when a remote user logs in to the network, they are authenticated to their network account and associated netowrk account profile. That profile will be loaded [not their local machine account profile] when they remotely log in. you need to change that so when they log in the local machine account profile is loaded up. You can do this a couple of different ways. Specify client side settings apply with remote access or copy their local machine account profile to the network, make that profile a roaming profile and specify that profile to load it up when they log in.
