W2K - Problems with DOS full-screen

By tbrown ·
We run a DOS app here in the office. It runs fine on NT or 95/98, but on 2000 when we change to full-screen mode, the screen gets scrammbled and un-readable. I've tried loading ANSI.SYS, but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?

this might help you out....

Try useing a MODE CON command in the bat file for the executable.

The Syntax is:

MODE CON:cols=<columns per line> lines=<vertical line per screen>

Please note that only 40 or 80 are valid values for the cols switch.

there are some other obscure mode switches, so if that doesn't work, lemme know.

May a symptom rather than the problem: DOS applications that run fine under Windows 95/98 are not guaranteed at all under Windows NT. Here's the problem: If your application requires real time access to hardware / system resources (versus runningon the NT Virtual Machine, via APIs), it is not going to work. If you have a DOS application that you can not upgrade to windows, my gut instinct would point to a highly specialized implementation, whith just those real time access problems.

Could it be a code page problem?
Try Chcp
This displays the number of the active console code page. Only the OEM code page installed with Windows 2000 will appear correctly in a command prompt window using Raster fonts.
Experiment with differentfont settings in the DOS-Prompt Properties. (Right click top Left Icon)
Other code pages will appear correctly in full-screen mode or command prompt windows that are using TrueType fonts.

Perhaps these CHCP settings will help.
