Waiting for Excel

Two computers on our network with the same processors and RAM as the rest, hang for several minutes after Excel loads. The spreadsheet appears, but the hourglass comes with it and the wait is excruciating. I had read an article that blamed missing network printers for similar problems, but I can’t remember the details. BTW, this network is one that has been managed by two competing IT departments on campus who have different approaches to configuring workstations. If I had a clue about where to look, I would suspect a configuration/compatibility problem.
