Charity theft

by In reply to wanker of the week...

It STILL amazes me that people can behave this way. At least when someone steals money there is an understandable motive. Stealing the freely given kindness of strangers is a lower form of theft.

"...We have a thief and he is sitting here among us. Not a normal thief like the one Wentworth had the guts to stand up to. This thief is a thousand times lower..." :-)

Maybe Clarence Beaks of Lindhurst Security could help with this... :-)

I wouldn't call it theft..

by Jaqui In reply to Charity theft

but it is definately abuse of the system

the points are free to get.
what cost to award them?
the answers are freely given.
and I know that some of us don't really care about the points. it's the fact that this person is abusing the kindness of his peers by not awarding them that is wrong.

Did you get the joke?

Ok. But, did you get the joke? :-)

Had you not said as much I would never have guessed that there was a joke in your post. Please explain. Or is it an inside joke between you and Jaqui?

Sorry. I wish I was/were smarter.

Roger got it

by In reply to No

The quote was taken from the movie "Trading Places". It just flashed in my mind when I thought of the character issue of not rating answers in TQ&A.

I didn't even THINK I was quoting from a movie released 23 years ago. Has it been that long? Seems like yesterday to me. I guess I need to think twice about things like this. Some people on TR may not have even been born when that movie came out.

I was just curious

by stress junkie In reply to Roger got it

I don't think you need to think about the wider audience when you are being humorous. The only reason that I asked was that I was curious.

Just for the record, not that it matters because it doesn't but my fingers need the exercise, I'm 47 years old and I saw the movie but I don't remember the quote. As I say it doesn't matter. Some people will get it, others won't.

I have to completely refrain from humor because NOBODY gets my jokes. Whenever I try to be funny people tell me to take a chill pill or whatever because they think that I'm serious. I guess hyperbolic sarcasm doesn't play well in print or at least not the way that I try to do it.

About the quote...

by In reply to I was just curious

I just really liked that movie. It really stuck and I've seen it again on video.

The quote comes from the meeting at the club when they arrest Wentworth (Aykroyd) for stealing money from the cloak room. It's the introduction made by the guy who introduces Clarence Beaks, the dishonest security guy from Lindhurst Security.

use the emoticons

by jdclyde In reply to I was just curious

it seems that is what I often have to do as I am a sarcastic baastard most of the time it turns out...

"I'm just a soul whos' intentions are good
oh lord, don't let me be misunderstood"

(my theme song that most here aren't old enough to even know....)
