Hey,
I’ve got a small org that I’m doing some work for, but they’re about one thousand miles away from me. No problem! They’ve got a reliable VPN connection so it’s RDP to the rescue! That’s all fine and dandy for Windows machines that are already installed.
However, one of the things I’d like to set up for this growing network is some kind of network monitoring station using an old junker workstation that’s laying around. Of course, immediately my mind turns to Nagios or Zabbix. However, I don’t want to have to install anything. It’d be so nice to just burn a CD, have someone at the office drop it into an old PC with a network connection and then use VNC to remotely manage it. Does anyone have any personal experience with such a thing?
BONUS: It’s be really nice if the Live CD could then, if I deemed it useful enough, be installed to the HD relatively easily. Maybe I’m asking to much. :^|
Oh, and an SNMP collector would come in handy too, as I’d like to start collecting juicy info from some of the printers and switches and whatnot.
And it needs to make coffee for me.
