Warning: Saturday TR outage planned, 12-3pm EST!

By Jay Garmon Contributor ·
Just a little heads-up to our Insiders...we're deploying a fix to our site authentication system, which will mean the system will be down for a few hours. When authentication is down, it will block access to any site features that require login, including making or editing posts, or accessing the TRI forum.

The outage is planned for noon to 3pm EST. Hopefully, no unforeseen problems will extend it, but given our recent track record, I'll go ahead an apologize in advance.

Bit late Jay

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Warning: Saturday TR outa ...

When I tried to respond to a TRI link last night I was told that I was Attempting to Access a Restricted Site.

No biggie there but this wasn't on the TRI listings Friday Night when I last checked them. But as I'm now here I'm guessing that everything went smoothly. :^0

Just for that I'm not going to answer any of your questions about Ubuntu but I'll drop a hint here your current problem with the updates revolves around the initial setup so that is a good place to start looking for a fix.

I couldn't even get in that way I saw you're two messages but when I tried to read them I was told that I didn't have access to this part of TR. :^0

I thought Finally I've got lucky and might have slightly more time to do some paying work.

BAD BAD COLIN using those nasty 4 letter words again! I'll remember to slap my wrists.

It ran much longer than planned didn't it???

by sleepin'dawg In reply to Warning: Saturday TR outa ...

I'm not really complaing so much as I am slightly confused since so many other Cnet sites don't appear to have the same problems, as frequently as TR does. It makes me wonder what OS the servers are running on. You wouldn't expect these things to pop up so often on a site dedicated to IT. Maybe a quick check with the other divisions might assist you in eliminating the worst of the annoyances. One other thing I might suggest is, that before you add any more bells and whistles, the addition of a spell checker would be ever so nice and might make some of us appear a little more intelligible, if not intelligent. This would be a real boon for those like myself who are somewhat challenged as typists.

Actually a CNET wide outage

by JFPSF In reply to It ran much longer than p ...

This outage was due to maintenance on a central CNET service. So, all the CNET sites that used that service had the same outage. It was not specific to TR. And, yes it did run long. Way long.

OK Jay it's now 12.06 PM Monday Local Time in AU

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Warning: Saturday TR outa ...

And when I click on a notification of a new message in the TRI I'm still getting The Access Denied page.

But I can get in straight through the Discussion forums and the link that I clicked on appears to have been read when I finally get in.

Outage ran long

by JFPSF In reply to OK Jay it's now 12.06 PM ...

This outage was due to maintenance on a CNET wide service that we use for TR, and it ran far longer than it was supposed to. There was nothing the TR guys could do about it.
