web design prices?

This really depends upon what you need on the page...what you're asking is like saying "can anyone give me a price on a repair on my car?". If it's a tire needing plugged it's $10-15. If it's a transmission rebuild, it's a totally different thing.
I spent 15 years as a graphic designer before I became a network engineer, so I've built a lot of web sites. The things you'll need to decide are:

What time frame do we want this project handled in? Do we have a go-live date?

What is the look/theme we want for our site? Are we focused upon appearance, design, functionality, or cost?

Do we have a logo? What format is it in? Will it need digitized, converted, or created?

What copy and information do we want? Has this been created (professionally)? Proofed?

What Graphics/Photographs do we want and need? Do we have them or will they need to be created?

What links do we want? Where will e-mail from the site go?

Will there be any downloadable items on the site? Are they created in a web-friendly format?

Will there be any forms, programs or "bells and whistles" stuff on the page?

These are just the starting points, but any designer will at least want to discuss them with you.

That said, for a while web siteswere going for completely outrageous prices. If what you want is fairly simple, you have a good bit of the material you need (copy, pictures etc) and don't want any programming work, you should be able to get a single page site done very inexpensively. I'd say under $250. I've built single site pages for $150 before (These involved digitizing a logo, a couple digital camera pictures, dropping in and formatting supplied text and adding a custom menu bar with links at the bottom). The more you want to add and the more time it will take the designer, of course, the more the price will go up.

If you want to e-mail me details, I'll be glad to give you a better idea. I'll tell you what I would charge and you can compare that with what your local web designers offer.

Good luck!
