Weird XP WI-FI problem

I have a Belkin USB Nework Adaptor (G).
On my 2000 Office pro system I had no problem, but on my laptop running XP it keps trying to hijack installation disc and even using point restore to prior first attempt at installation the problem continues.
Am I forgetting something really stupid?!
It has installed it multiple times and won’t let me uninstall and it can’t find the files on the CD.
Help!
