What areas are IT professionals specializing in?

Hi all,

This is my first post and I am looking for advise from members in this forum.

I am 22 years old and I currently work in the Technical Team as a Technical Manager in a London based IT reseller and solutions provider. My current role mainly consists of presales meetings with prospective customers, listening to their IT needs and openly discussion various IT solutions with them, be it a server or network refresh and storage solutions. Off the back of these meetings I spec up the solution and write project proposals detailing the project outline and time scales.
Before this role I spent 2/3 years on an IT helpdesk and 2/3rd line support engineer. I dealt with various end user issues and troubeshooted Exchange issues, back up issues, AD issues, Networking issues to name a few.
I regard myself as an ‘all rounder’ in IT knowing small bits about many different areas and technologies.

I am at the point where I want to specialise in a given area, but I have no idea where to start.

What do you guy think? What are some key areas to consider specialising in?

Since you haven’t mentioned any specific domain there are a lot of areas in IT where one can do specialization. We are leading web designing company in Chennai and we are into web related specializations. For you we would suggest project management specialization.

Kyle as you told you are a Technical Manager, yes there are different technologies which are helpful in management.
