What character looks like but do not act like space for Microsoft Teams?

    by panes-rubrics ·

IMHO when suggested replies are not pertinent, I include suggested replies each of which unfortunately is wordy.
It takes care to select words separated by spaces.

Teams do not yet recognize non-breaking spaces and still treats any two words cojoined by a non-breaking space as two entities.

A non-breaking space is exactly what it says: it separates two words in such a way that (in for example Word or html) they never will be on separate lines if the there is not enough space for the second word after the first. I didn’t try what Teams does.

Any character that has a font color equal to the background color (most often: white) looks like a space but is treated as a normal character. It even has the added property that you can choose the with. An invisible w or underscore is wider than an invisible i or dot.

      I don’t know of a non-space space.

      “non-breaking space”

The character that looks like a space but does not act like one is the “non-breaking space” or “NBSP.” In Microsoft Teams, it appears visually as a space but prevents line breaks, maintaining content on the same line.

      – Can you explain what you mean with “recognize” and “entities”.
      – Are you talking about the web version of Teams or the app version?

Also have a look at https://superuser.com/questions/1773615/how-to-stop-ms-teams-chat-from-altering-messages-it-adds-non-breaking-space-chr , although I think it doesn’t help.

And maybe there just isn’t such a character for Teams.

My use case is to enable quick reply (Windows Teams or Outlook Email) by

Non-default suggested replies (words) with 1-Click?

        EXAMPLE:
        My Stop Gap as follows:

use a character with same font color as background to separate words visually only; that is, words are copied as single word.

Visual words separator (in lieu of space character) to quick select words from sentence? say ① White Font Color? ② Paste with Font Color from Word? ③ look-alike space character?

This to simplify recipients of my message ” ① Mickey Mouse ② Donald Duck ③ Above are not applicable ” to respond by

        (1) single click “Above are not applicable ”

        (2) Ctrl-C

        (3) Ctrl-V into their reply message

        (4) Their Reply Message will be “Above are not applicable ”

One advantage is message search is more effective if responses are one of my supplied replies (compared to search recipient-preferred-responses).

        Is there a better way?
