What could be some realistic IT job oppo

By gentleman_bob ·
I have learned, on my own, Windows95/98 well enough to be certified by Brainbench. I have also been certified by them as having a high IT aptitude. I have put together and configured various home based systems, again, all on my own. Am I being realistic in believing I could begin some kind of career in the IT industry?

Yes, I think it is very realistic. You have shown initiative to work with the operating systems and apparently research to find answers to your questions. You networking experience is a great beginning, especially if you are interested in more formal training (for example, taking web-based courses for network + (look at www.compTIA.com)which is vendor neutral. You could begin studying for certifications such as that or look more deeply into mcse tracks (4.0 by dec., 2000 or windows2000). Your initiative tells me more about your cabilities than brainbench tests, so look more deeply in your training options and a help desk position would get you troubleshooting all aspects of operating systems. Look at www.brainbuzz.com; www.elementk.com; www.smartforce.com; www.mcsetutor.com, etc. to get certication news/info., training info., prices. Good luck.

2nd line support would be good too as you would open up to the Server side of things.
Most of 2nd line engineers don't concentrate enough on the desktops nowadays so whilst you would be able to use ur existing skills, you would also get the opportunity of learning more.
Target a medium company. Don't sell yourself too high and accept to keep a low profile for a year or so..People like you are the one who are the most successful so keep going.

Only partially. It takes more than self study to successfully work in IS. It takes a willingness to keep learning, and someone to give you credible experience.
