Grounding DNA evidence

by Geek3001 In reply to What do you make of this?

It could ground certain types of DNA evidence while creating a whole new underground industry.

Imagine buying 'decoy' DNA based evidence on the Internet and making sure that it gets left behind at the scene of a crime. If done correctly, you would hide the real evidence in a massive 'haystack' of fake evidence.

And for a few dollars more, the 'decoy' evidence could be used to finger people who might be better suspects. (The DA, your local politician, the head of the local gang...)

"underground industry"

I was actually thinking about that, too.

If this is as simple as the author implies, I could see mobile labs going around the country, setting up shop for a few days in some parking lot or rest area, and then going on to the next town.

Meet the snake oil salesmen of the 21st century!

Big can of worms

If the DNA juggernaut were Microsoft, I'd say it has been penetrated.

This means that...

...many cases that were decided mainly through DNA evidence should be looked at again.

*Paranoia mode on*

I'm taking extra precautions in order to prevent anyone from getting a sample of my DNA. (No one's framing me, EVER.)

Paranoia

by TonytheTiger In reply to This means that...

How do you know they don't already HAVE a sample... just waiting for the right time to use it? :)

Here's how they could do it

by AV . In reply to Paranoia

If they wanted a pure DNA sample, they could take it from you when you're born, without your consent and anybody knowing. They might already be doing that and who knows for how long.

Theres no end to the number of ways they can get your DNA. Now I'll have to start using my own carefully guarded cup to drink from wherever I go. :^0
