What if I misplaced the product key

By fkliford ·
I have two programs (Visio & Ms Project 2003)for which I cannot find the original case. As a result their installation cannot be completed since I don't have their product key. Is there a way I can find the product key? Remember that I have the cds, the original ones.

Please give me your advice.

Keys and CDs

First, the keys are NOT anywhere on the CDs themselves. Microsoft uses an algorithm in the installer to compare the key to a root and verify that the key is valid for that run of that product.

Is the software still installed on a different PC?

If so, you can use a key-finder to pull the key from the registry.

The most common key finder is Magic Jelly Bean Key Finder.

"IF" you have solid proof of purchase, you might be able to get a new key from Microsoft. However, if these are OEM or Academic versions, you need to get the key from the reseller you bought them from.
