What is the best free antivirus program for Windows?

Many people are happy with Windows Safeguard (assuming you’re using a Windows PC), which is free, updated as often as possible, and does the job well.

Others prefer paid programs such as Norton and McAfee (definitely the most famous paid apps/software). I actually like Malwarebytes, but that’s my trend. Make your choice and submit an inquiry about a specific product. All the best.

The best antivirus software available for windows is windows defender. Windows defender is a very powerful antivirus although people never agree. There has been an argument over these matters. Windows defender actually does its job better than any other antivirus. If you do not use your computer to go to the dark web then there is no need for you to have another antivirus. Windows defender is good at handling viruses offline but not online. If you want to be protected while browsing the web you can get avast internet security. I have to warn you though, that a second antivirus will hurt your computer. Only get it if you need it.

The answer would depend on how you define “the best”.

Is “the best free antivirus” the one that detects most malware? If so, have a look at some of the comparison studies between these products. For example, https://www.av-comparatives.org/test-results/ is probably one of the more extensive of such comparison websites.

Or, is “the best” something like the one that uses the least system resources? Personally, I wouldn’t want an antimalware program that can detect 99.99% of all malware with a zero percent false positive rate, if it took 20% of my CPU and RAM while running on the background. But that’s just my preference, what is yours?

And thirdly, does the UI and the set of features play any part of your “what is the best” definition?

Again, I personally never use any kind of real-time protection features, because all they tend to do is slow things down and add delay when starting apps. All I want is an antimalware, that has a big button to start a scan and then does just that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Once, I used Avast antivirus software. In my opinion, I didn’t like their interface and work. I also agree that windows defender is the perfect free antivirus.

Installing third-party free antivirus software will recommend you to install other software, sometimes it’s necessary to install as their suggestions to run a free-antivirus software properly.
