What SW does TechRepublic use to track "

By christophersw ·
Hello,

I am currently trying to improve on our open source forum at elinux.com. I would like to implement "points" for "prizes" (give aways) from our company to encourage community interaction. Anyone know what sw would best be suited for this? What sw does TechRepublic use???

Thanks,
Chris

Have you tried the Contact Us function at TR?
or, try the website right below this answer? (www.experts-exchange.com)

If I would have designed Techrepublic, I would use database tables having fields like user-id, password, question, question-closed(y/n), point etc(and various other tables and fields).
A web application can be written in perl, asp, jsp, servlet, php or coldfusion which will store the user inputs into these tables and also retrieve results on the browser. I would use cookies to store user-id etc on client in case user has,nt logged out(to allow next time logging in without user-id and password prompt).
Techrepublic has probably built a custom application like I have described or has outsourced the work from somebody. Techrepublic best knows the details, I am just guessing.

The easiest way to do this is to develop a database that stores all of the user information. I would then combine the use of VB and ASP to retrieve the info for each user. Cookies are used to update and store points and other user info, which is also, obviously, stored in the database too.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
