What the **** are people saving their points for?

I lot of questions get answered and a lot of people get help but aparently not a lot of people part with their points.

as for points, it isnt that people are afraid to give them out, but too friggen lazy to close the questions. Too rude also to even say thanks.

At one point, points were suppose to be able to trade in for goodies. That never happened.

Not a matter of points

I don't think that its a matter of points.
What I find I've done in the past, and probably will do again in the future, though I hope not too much, is that an answer is given and acted upon, which usually means closing out of techrepublic, the answer works, possibly late at night, great now I can get on with what I was doing (having totally forgotten about rating the answers.

Being on the other side of the fence as well, I don't care about the points, but I would like to know if my answer helped or not.

I walked away from the TQ & A section a while ago because of that very reason well over 61% of my answers remained unrated and then The Chas dragged me kicking & Screaming back to the Q & A section and I am now as addicted as he is.

After all there is only one thread no side issues brought up no tangents to go off on and you only need to look at it once and never again until your answer is rated "which in most cases isn't often!". That could be why I'm spending so much of my limited time in the Q & A section and neglecting Discussions as they are a once only requirement to visit and you don't get hit with a listing of several hundred answers that have been added overnight to a discussion thread many of which have gone off on a tangent so you have to backtrack to see what the respondent is replying to.

But I do agree with you that the Tech points are as useful as Teats on a Bull but I understand that this is currently being reviewed along with many of the other TR site enhancements.

The only good thing that I have ever heard them described as is when you get a really hard problem that you run into at work you can offer 400K in Tech points and almost be guaranteed of a quick response that may at the very least get you thinking along a different track. :)
