What to buy, Goggle TV or Roku

By christinawarren ·
I just have a question, we are NOT tech savvy (I really don't even know what I'm doing on this website) - all I want to do is get rid of Cox cable & be able to watch TV shows & Movies. We bought the google revue and so far I am not impressed. I don't really care if I have the interenet or not on our TV. When I look for a show or movie not on netflix, I end up at amazon. If I wanted to rent a movie/tv show I'd go down to the corner redbox or blockbuster. Will the Roku do what I'm looking for?

Roku is pretty close to the same experience. (I have a Roku box)

With Roku, you sign up for "channels", which are kind of mini-programs. For example, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, are all channels to the Roku box. It does have some cool stuff like being able to play from a USB device (if it is in MP4 format) and even install some simple games like Angry Birds (came free with it). However, it's not really groundbreaking or anything. You still have to pay subscription fees for all the good stuff. (Crackle has free movies, but you have to watch ads every 15 mins or so.)

Essentially, the Roku is just a specialized internet browser when it comes right down to it.

What to buy a Roku or Google TV.

Have you thought about the BoxeeBox. We just bought one a week or so ago and we are now watching the programs we want, when we want, albeit a day later or whenever after the first broadcast.
Have not manage to find all that is available yet for free and yes naturally there are loads of rentals available.
Even my wife is starting to operate it on her own, will be getting rid of the broadcast system shortly.
