I am currently a junior in high school, and am in my schools computer IT job readiness program. We are currently studying for a few CompTIA certifications which got me wondering what else would look good on my resume for my first job in IT?

Looking to be an IT service technician. A field mainly in hardware preferably.

IMHO, some practical experience in your field/projects that you have worked on would go a long way or If you ever did field work or an internship in your field.

If our class does some of our school’s helpdesk, do you think that employers would accept that on a resume?

Frankly after years.

I’ve yet to see people land jobs because of their CompTIA certs.

Which had lead me to believe there’s more money in selling certs than buying them.
If you can get them for free, do it. Don’t rack up DEBT here.

As to jobs, talk to your job counselors. I find that many dismiss this step.

For your first IT job, aside from CompTIA certifications, consider learning basic networking (like Cisco’s CCNA), gaining experience with operating systems (Windows, Linux), and practicing troubleshooting skills.

Thanks very much! Linux has always been a struggle for me so I think it would be a really good idea for me to get more familiar with it.
