This same error has cropped up enough times that its finally aggravated me enough to ask if anyone can explain why it happens. I know how you fix it (I’ve got a lot of practice with this one) – it just makes no sense WHY it happens.
Here’s the deal.
We use Outlook 97 as our client side email software. Seemingly out of the blue on random machines two separate error messages will appear on the machine.
1. “Mapisp32.dll error”
2. “GUI interface error, please restart Outlook”
Of courserestarting Outlook (or for that matter the whole machine) never solves the problem.
The solution is you have to first copy the users .pst file (you really don’t HAVE TO, but I do it to be safe) then you need RENAME the Mapisp32.dll to something else, then you uninstall Outlook 97 and re-boot, then you re-install outlook 97 and re-boot…then you reconfigure mail.
Now can you see how this annoys me? This happened to 5 different computers in the last 9 months (beginning of the year). Btw, Ivirus scan the machines and they are reported as being “clean”.
Its almost like Outlook just randomly feels like not working for you and then the error occurs. Every single time before the error happens – all seems fine, so it kind of “sneaks you”.
Any explaination would be beyond appreciated.
