Whats the point of Out of Office Assistant?

By mg_roberts ·
So I enable Out of Office Assistant on the Exchange server. I test. Everything works fine... while my account is logged on and outlook is open. As soon as I close outlook the Autoresponder stops autoresponding. So basically the Out of Office Assistant is completely useless?

Out of Office Assistant (OOF) is only designed to reply once to each recipient when enabled. However if Out of Office Auto Replies are disabled for Domain * in Exchange System Manager ref:-http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=262352 then even if enabled in Outlook then OOF replies will not be sent to people external to your Exchange Organisation.
