WhatsApp linking of Android and PC

    by zlzpqx ·

During the last couple of weeks, I have started experiencing very frequent disconnections between WhatsApp on my Android and my PC. Further, the remedy of logging out and scanning with my Android the QC code on my PC screen also very often has not been working.

WhatsApp has provided several possible solutions. I have tried all of them, including restarting my PC, newly downloading WhatsApp for Windows, and so on, with no success at all.

In a case like this, the solution is to swap devices.

Ask a friend who has Whatsapp on his phone to come and try with you. If that’s OK you know it’s your phone. Otherwise it most likely isn’t, so it’s your PC or router. To confirm that take your phone with you to a friend and try there. This helps to locate the issue (and so maybe to solve it).

        Kees,

You may kindly see “My Additional Info” below in my reply to Bob.

Implementing your suggestions are a bit difficult for me. But, as I wrote in my reply to Bob, as far as I can determine, there seems to be no problem with my Android, HP PC, Internet connection, and all relevant settings in my Android. My only suspicion” that remains is that WhatsApp Web has newly introduced some connection “instability” problem. But I recognize that that possibility is also extremely small.

        Thank you!

I checked, and all is fine here. And it’s very likely that it will be all fine with you if you buy a another phone, another router and another PC and – if necessary – another location if the cause is interference. That’s the brute force solution. If you buy everything in one shop and let them install it, you’re 100% sure it works and keeps working during the warranty period.

But it’s much cheaper to find which of the four is the culprit with you. And, yes, swapping with a something you know works (such as in this case taking your phone with you to a friend, install Whatsapp on their PC, and compare your phone and their phone in their Guest account in Windows) is a good way.

It’s how repair shops work if you bring your broken stuff. They swap a suspect part and see it it works.
An educated guess to what’s wrong makes it much easier. But if all you know is that the connection breaks spontaneously, it’s difficult to make that educated guess and you start with something simple (another phone or another frequency band for your WiFi) before doing the difficult things.

I see nothing wrong here. Why?

Because the phone and PC (both!) can go to sleep or not have an Internet connection due to range or other issue then the link stops.

Fix? Depends on the cause. Most likely the phone has lost its Internet connection.

        My additional information

In reply to I see nothing wrong here. Why?

        Bob and Kees,

First, I thank both of you for your responses.

I have been completely stumped with my above described problem, for I am fairly certain that there is no problem whatever with my Android, HP PC, or the Internet connection. As far as I can determine, all settings in my Android which are related, or even potentially related, to my problem are proper.

Some further details about my problem are:

When, now and then, I am able to “hit the jackpot” in obtaining (through scanning with my Android the QC code in WhatsApp Web) the WhatsApp connection between my Android and PC Windows, the connection very, very often breaks within a few minutes. I just wonder whether other people who use the WhatsApp connection facility ALSO have recently started experiencing the same, (new) “instability” problem in WhatsApp Web.

I find that facility VERY useful, and am therefore very much interested in cessation of the stated recent problem.

        Thank you again.

How does your Phone connect to the Internet?

My Android is connected to Internet through Wi-Fi and my own home router

          by zlzpqx ·

In reply to What I’d like to know is.

Thank you for the follow up, Bob.

My Android is connected to Internet through Wi-Fi and my own home router.

I have had no problem for a very long time in getting Internet connection for either my Android or HP PC through Wi-Fi and my home router.

As additional information, since I am able to connect at least sometimes WhatsApp in Android and my HP PC (Via WhatsApp Web) and then the WhatsApp in my PC often disconnects after a while — and then SOMETIMES connects by itself after some more time! — my inference is that the problem is not with my Android connection to Internet. The problem seems to be with WhatsApp Web staying connected as it very nicely used to do so until a couple of weeks ago. Except for WhatsApp Web, there is no Internet connection problem for any other websites. But, as the latest news, during the last hour or so, the WhatsApp Web connection problem APPEARS to have (mysteriously!) lessened. So everything is a mystery –and a matter of sheer good or bad luck in this regard — for me!

Thank you — and Kees — for your help and follow ups.

          Bob,

Just as mysteriously as the stated problem had arisen four days ago, it has practically 100% disappeared by now!

it may be that the rise and resolution of the problem have some connection to the moon’s phases!
