I have my windows 98 CD rom so I'm reinstalling every thing my problem is the code that I wrote down is now correct I have tried 10 time so far, my question is there a way to read the Product code from the win 98 cd rom. I can't find my book that had the code on it yet I have another computer that has 98 and just need to know where I can find the product code on the 98 cd-rom thanks for your help.

Sorry, the product code is NOT on the CD itself.

What Microsoft uses is an algorithm that determines if the product code that you entered is valid for the run of Windows CD that you have.

If you had not formatted the hard drive, it would have been possible to recover the product code from the registry files.

If you cannot find your manual, your next option would be to contact the system manufacture (for OEM products) or Microsoft (for retail versions) if you can provide proof of purchase, they may supply you with a new product code.
