Where do I start?

By jeffclark123 ·
I want to know which certification should I start with first. I have little to know experience. I have a friend who wants to start with the MCSE and wants me to do the same but I do not know much about the basics. Should I start with A+ then proceed to Network+ and then on to the MCSE certification? Help!!!

Hi, I would start with A+ so you have a general understanding of operating sytems, hardware, configuration and diagnostics. Network+ is vendor neutral so that would be a good cert. to have. You could also take some mcse courses for free at www.leapit.com (A+,mcse4.0 and 2000 courses) to get a feel for what is involved. Microsoft also makes pretty good training kits for all their products (mspress). There is also a lot of networking info. on cisco's site: www.cisco.com. I think you are right to begin with the basics and work your way to more advanced areas. Taking free courses will also help you decide if you like it before plunking down a lot of money for books and/or classes. Good luck.

Hi

I started with the A+ and went onto the MCSE.
I am still in the learning process and is still concedered a paper technician. We all have to start some ware and if you do not have any computer background like I never had, A+ is where to start.
Have a look at this site Freeacademy.com.
Go for it......!!

I agree with the above. Start out with A+ training and learn the XT and AT board. Many things, still today are tied to that technology(not to mention the operating systems). The are upgrading or have upgraded the A+ test. It will be more currentthan the test earlier this year.
