Android certainly remains the bigger target, both in terms of numbers of users and Android’s more open and adaptable platform continues to make it more vulnerable to cyberattacks. Apple’s iOS operating system has long been considered the more secure operating system.

Much of a Muchness as both rely on Open Source Platforms.

      by oh smeg ·

In reply to Which is more secure Android or iOS?

IOS is based on BSD which is a Open Source Offering that originally was called Berkley Software Development hence the BSD which is now available in various forms and Android is a development of Linux.

Both OS’s have many people looking a t them and plugging any holes that they find and both rely on the Many Eyes make it Secure Belief.

So overall it not much of a issue between them though I should add that it was IOS which was broken first the last time I attended a Security Meeting but it was only a few moments faster than Droid took.

      iOS definitely rules

      by ritujha7652 ·

In reply to Which is more secure Android or iOS?

No doubt, but it is definitely iOS. iOS is more secured than Android. As android is widely used and as it’s an open source so it becomes prone to attacks. Me being a part of the website development company in Surat that also does application development so I have overheard my colleagues debating about it. Also, I have used both the operating system and on the basis of security, I will have to give a thumbs up to iOS.

In reply to Which is more secure Android or iOS?

In some circles, Apple’s iOS operating system has long been considered the more secure of the two operating systems. Why? Apple’s operating system is a closed system. Apple doesn’t release its source code to app developers, and the owners of iPhones and iPads can’t modify the code on their phones themselves. This makes it more difficult for hackers to find vulnerabilities on iOS-powered devices.

Android devices are the opposite, relying on an open-source code, meaning that the owners of these devices can tinker with their phone’s and tablet’s operating systems. Too much tinkering, and owners might create a weakness in their devices’ security. Then there are manufacturers themselves. If a phone maker puts out a new device with a modification to the Android operating system and there’s a vulnerability in that code, hackers will find it.

Android is more often targeted by hackers, too, because the operating system powers so many mobile devices today. The global popularity of the Android operating system makes it a more attractive target for cyber criminals. Android devices, then, are more at risk of the malware and viruses that these criminals unleash.
Popularity: The Android operating system is hugely popular. This means that developers are constantly building new apps designed to run on the system. That’s good for users … mostly. The problem comes when hackers create apps designed to infect your mobile devices. There is an app review process for Google Play. Unfortunately, the process is far less stringent than what developers face when adding apps to Apple’s App Store. It’s easier, then, for malicious apps to sneak onto the Google Play store and easier for users to accidentally install one. One of the main issues is that the end user can go into a Android device and enable the installation of software from Unknown Sources. This means that you can install software on the Android device that does not come from the Google PlayStore. The software — or APK, as it’s called — can be downloaded and installed from a website bypassing the Google PlayStore review.

Open source: Android owners can modify the source code of their Android devices. This appeals to users who want the flexibility to change the way their mobile devices run. But it can also make Android devices vulnerable to attacks. When altering their device’s source code, users could accidentally leave an opening for cybercriminals

      android or ios

      by deborasumopayroll ·

In reply to Which is more secure Android or iOS?

OS is very restricted about the applications that you install on your iPhone, as you can’t install any application that is outside from the Apple app store. Where are in Android you can install application out side of the Play Store simply by downloading any (. apk) extension file. Now how is it a big, I will explain, see the applications that one would install outside of the playstore may be because they are paid on the Play store, so one would find the cracked apk file and install it. But it might contain malicious code which can act as a payload which would transfer your data remotely to the person who has cracked the apk and made that app free and available to you. Which results in the privacy invasion.
Suppose one person steals your Android phone he can simple boot into the recovery mode of your phone which is very simple(by turning off the phone and after that pressing the vol up + power button simultaneously) and voila once you have booted up into the recovery mode he can reset your phone and use your phone. Now you might say that Google asks for the previously signed in email address with password if one reset the phone from the recovery mode, well the in that case he can simply flash the firmware of the phone for the tools and the firmware to flash are easily available on the internet and this whole process just takes an hour or so.
This are the main reasons that make the Android more secure.

Frankly speaking you cannot compare this after the recent pegasus attack

      by erickmiser247 ·

In reply to Which is more secure Android or iOS?

The recent pegasus attack has ended all year of this debated topic that iOS has woned every time.

According to Project Pegasus 2021, current Pegasus software can exploit all iOS versions until iOS 14.6. WhatsApp revealed in May 2017 that Pegasus had exploited an error in its code to infect over 1,400 Android phones and iPhones. The spyware can be installed on certain versions of iOS, and some Android devices. Pegasus is not a single exploit. It’s a collection of exploits that exploits many weaknesses in the system. Clicking links, Google’s Photos app and the Apple Music app are all possible infection vectors.

But iOS is more secure than Android of all time because of the restrictions they have set for the users without Jailbreak.
