HP or Acer

by kevinauthor In reply to Which is the best laptop ...

I was researching for different purposes like Revit system, students, and more. I found some good laptops under $500-$700. System configuration is also good for all types of works like photography, personal works, and more. I have two suggestions for you:

1. 2019 Newest HP 15 Laptop (Intel Quad-Core i7-8550U, Intel UHD 620, 16GB DDR4 Memory, 512GB SSD)

2. Acer Aspire E 15 Laptop ( 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD)

By the way, I love HP brand. I am using HP Pavilion from 2012 and still working. Now your choice.

I haven't used those in years

by MissDorkness In reply to HP or Acer

I work with AutoCAD and Revit and other related software. I haven't used an HP in years. Everything else has been Dell. I can't speak to the specs on my company provided machines, but, I love the Dell outlet to get really good configurations for less money. My last three personal workstations have come from there, as have my kids'.

The only thing you really need to worry about is the graphics card, and you can search those here:

Though I'm not sure that they suit Photo Editing the best Windows has better software for editing Pictures than Apple does so that may be the limiting Factor here.

Autodesk is limited on Mac

by MissDorkness In reply to Apples are defiantly the ...

There is an AutoCAD for Mac application, but, all other Autodesk products (like Revit mentioned above) are only programmed for Windows.
Yes, you can use things like bootcamp and parallels, but, there will always be issues and workarounds needed. Windows machines are a lot easier to manage for that.

Asus Vivobook R542UQ-DM252T
Lenovo Ideapad 330
Acer Aspire E 15 (already recommended by kevinauthor)

If you can extend your budget for 3-4k you can go with MSI GF Core i5 9th Gen.

by dnerd In reply to Which is the best laptop ...

I was in your situation sometime ago when I was trying to buy laptop for my son. A friend told me about SlankIT, I used their Smartguide [https://slankit.com/smartguide/laptops/1] and it was easy for me to narrow down on the laptops. Try them www.slankit.com. Hope it helps. Good luck
