I’ve noticed allot of complaining about SPAM e-mail, and I have to agree that something needs to be done about spammers, but what about the legitimate businesses caught in the middle? I work for a business that uses e-mailing to market our product, responsibly! we have an opt-in process whereby we receive the e-mail and a phone number, we then add this to a “phone list” we then arrange for a person in marketing to call the person who owns the e-mail address if they say that they want to be part of our newsletter list, they get added to our list. our newsletter e-mails have our contact phone number, and an unsubscribe link. If we receive an unsubscribe request, the e-mail address gets added to a non contact list and cleaned out of all further lists generated. Today however I’ve found out, that we are on the Blars (http://www.blars.org) blacklist without Blars warning us, and without Blars giving us a chance to represent ourselves, and whats more, this Blars Blackmailer wants a minimum of $1500 to “investigate” taking us off. If Blars, and Blars alone decides that there was no error on our part we get the money refunded…
come on, really? Blars decides if Blars keeps $1500+ to take us off a list that Blars couldn’t be bothered to warn us about. Blackmail, Slander, Apathy I ask you all, who’s watching the watchmen here?
I understand that people are wary to hit an unsubscribe link in there e-mail, it broadcasts to the spammer, that you are a real address, but what course of action should a legitimate buisiness (like ourselves) take?
