Why are we being flooded with all these peer reviews again???

By sleepin'dawg ·
I've noticed that very few people ever post to them and they are annoying when you have to toggle past so many of them. Why not put them all in a peer review forum of their own and if anyone feels a pressing need to fire a broadside at these products they could go there and really let loose, without bothering the majority. These things have been popping up with a degree of aggravating regularity and I have yet to see any one of them collect more than a few posts from the regulars although they do seem to appeal to a lot of newbies. Why not put them someplace where we wouldn't be tripping over so many of them all the time???

I hear that...

by Jaqui In reply to Why are we being flooded ...

to many of them on any given day is just spam.
and no-one will post to them when there is to many being posted.
one or two a day will get responces, not 30 or 40 a day.

Actually, some of us at TR agree

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to AHEM!!!

We don't like that these things get dumped in Miscellaneous, either, so I'll let you in on a secret...Miscellaneous as we know it is going away. Don't panic. All categories as we know them are going away.

Under the new scheme, you can ask a question or start a discussion from one form. You can also place your post in *multiple* categories--the list has been signifiacntly streamline, and is the same for both discussions and Tech Q&A--one of which is off-topic. Under this new scheme, Product Reviews will be mixed into their appropriate categories, and not dumped into the off-topic area. Yes, they will show up on the scrolling New list, but I'd argue they belong there.

I'm slipping this to you guys on the sly, so don't go peer-mailing this everywhere. Oh, and start complaining now, so we don't push out more stuff that you guys hate.

link broked.

The biggest issue with the PPRs is the sheer number getting posted, having them posted to the appropriate subject area would be good also.

but keep it down in number on any given day.

less than 5 a day, then the responces from the community can come in.

They should slow down...

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to link broked. :(

The feature is new, and as our aggregation system gets enough content for different products these things pop out. Once this ramp-up period is over, they should really slow down. Especially since Microsoft can't push anything out on time.

Boy are you wrong there Jay

M$ got the XBox 360 out fairly close to their estimated release date it's only their software that they have so much trouble with. :^0

With Vista WINFS has been dropped Again but that's hardly surprising as they have been touting it out ever since the NT days. :)

Currently Vista looks very much like XP with more Eye Candy but very little else. Imagine that M$ re badging XP and then selling it to everyone it couldn't happen could it?

no . . .

The biggest problem is that they're not using accessible technologies. Flash? Hello?

I think you could be asking for trouble with the multiple categories part.....

you're going to need an admin just to ensure that people who aren't familiar with the site don't post it under EVERY category.

Or those who aren't sure where it should be, because they aren't familiar with IT terminology

Or those who want to cause controversy/flame/bad feeling

You could end up a) causing more work for yourselves or b) annoying more of the site users with these "duplicate" threads.

I'd really think about the knock on effect first, if I were you....

Sorry, Jay, just my 2p worth

That's entirely possible

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to Jay

But frankly, every feature we offer has the potential for abuse (peer messages, for example), and we can't NOT put out features for fear that someone will eventually abuse them. We just have to have countermeasures in place to smack down the abusers if they act up. Trust me, I'm the guy that suppresses and deletes inappropriate threads aroun here (jardinier - I'm watching you ). If somebody posts an all-category flame, I'll be the first to exact retribution.
