Why doesn't windows see my drivers?

By BeauGanas ·
I am trying to install w2k8 on a dell poweredge 2850. I reconfigured the raid setup and began to install w2k8. Now, windows prompts me for a driver, I am assuming for the raid controller. However, it does not recognize any driver that I have tried so far?
1. Am I supposed to be installing the raid controller driver at this point?
2. If not, what?

Thanks.

Do you have the setup disk that came with the server?

If you have that, it will do the RAID setup for you, and then start the install.

If not, yes, you have to load the proper raid driver for that hardware AND for Win2008 before the system will be able to see and access the hard drives.

Did you boot into the Raid controller and setup the arrays yet? That has to be done first!

Any error messages?

watch out for the type of driver you're trying to install...

Is your w2k8 64 bit?
SCSI or SAS drives?

You should be able to download your required drivers from the DELL site...here's a link for the Poweredge 2850 http://tinyurl.com/yervddf

They have 3 different versions of w2k8 in the dropdown to select your OS...ensure you select the correct one.
