Why is ‘localhost’ one of the camera options on my computer?

I’ve never seen this on my other computers and I’m scared my computer is infected and this is something someone is using to spy on me or worse.

It’s not malware but how things work.

When choosing a webcam for me to use in an application, it’s one of the options next to the default one that comes built into my laptop. I don’t remember this ever being an option before
