Why isnt my GPO being run ?

By waldekev ·
I have just converted from an NT 4 domain to Win 2k with active directory. I have created an OU called Finance and under that OU's called Computers and Users. My test user and 2 test computers reside in the relevant OU. At the Finance level i've created a GPO. If i log onto the 2 PCs, with the same user id, the GPO is applied to one and not the other? Both are running Win2k SP2 - the only differance is one was built while the domain was NT4 and the other built after conversion. I've trieddeleting the computer account and rejoining the domain.

Why isnt my GPO being run ?

Strange indeed... Have you made sure the "trouble" workstation shows up in your Computers and Users OU? If its not showing up there may be an issue with the ACL. (I know you tried deleting the machine account then joining the domain again, but something definitely sounds amiss).

It was in the same OU as the working machine.

Try using the resource kit utility gpresult.exe. I use this utility to ferret out policy problems. It essentially lists the group membership of the machine and the user and the policies that are applied based on that membership. Using the /v switch will give better information if you need it. I also would suggest using the netdiag.exe resource kit utility. If I remember correctly group policy queries are an LDAP lookup based on a DNS query. Netdiag would point out a networking issue that may be isolated to the one trouble machine.

Turned out to be due to the "bad" machine having a static IP address and the OK one using DHCP. Absolutely no idea why it stopped GPO working because it appeared to be seeing the n/w ok. Thanks for the advice tho.
