Why M$?

By Bizzo ·
Just having a bit of a rant here, I'll go away shortly :)

I know that Microsoft is a huge corporate that screws money out of it's customers, but why do so many people in forums abbreviate it to M$?
Yes, I know it's a dollar sign. But why? Do they hate Microsoft that much? If so, are they still using windows?

What about Apple? Maybe I'll start calling them Appl?.

or am I just being uncool now?

Can't do that Bizzo

Apple can't be abbreviated as you've shown because they
aren't European based. If they were plural, you could say
"Apple$". But they aren't plural.

The same argument holds for Google and Yahoo but
Ci$co is a possibility.

It's all perception- Microsoft is thought to be money
grubbing, therefore the abbreviation.

I personally prefer to not use M$ as it tends to make a
person appear to be closed minded about Microsoft. Or
at least that is the perception I have heard.

Well I for one don't hate M$ at all

But I used to work Medical and as MS is a disease I find it unacceptable to infer that Microsoft is some kind of Incurable Disease.

Besides when I used MS as an Abbreviation for Microsoft I kept getting called to the Bureaucrats Offices to explain how the Computer System got Infected and what I planed to cure the problem.

M$ is just easier and in no way implies that Microsoft is anything but a company.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
