Will to Certify

By tony49mcp ·
I am looking for some kind of inspiring pep-talk from my peers. I started out just to learn* enough to built computers for fun and profit. I attended school and received the two certifications I thought would be all I needed to succeed in my newly-beloved chosen field. But, the knowledge bug bit me in the asterisk. MCP and A+ safely earned, goal achieved and happiness assured, NO! MCP is mostly a black hole to the Server/Network/Letter Galaxy! And I got sucked in!!! Now I wanted multiple MCSEs, CCeverything, Solaris, MOUS, etc., etc., etc.
I am well able to do all that I first desired to do. But, I MUST CERTIFY!! CAN'T STOP NOW!! MUST KNOW ALL!! This field it too exciting for me. But, I CAN'T LEAVE THIS GALAXY, NOW!! So, please help with some encouraging words of wisdom which will motivate me to "PRESS ON".
Thanks for listening, Doctors.

Don't take Certs seriously...Unless you want a job...

by UsrBabSitr In reply to Will to Certify

Certifications are great to have but are not essential to the job. Knowledge is. If you have the experience show it on your resume. I'm assuming you want the certs for resume anyway. That's pretty much the only place they come in handy in getting a foot in the door. Alot of HR Staff throw these damn acronymns at us as prerequisites now and you'll find it hard pressed to apply for something when it says "MCSE/CCNP Required" even though you've been working with Microsoft and Cisco your whole life. Good luck...
