Win 2K and Games

By sbybee ·
HI
I was wondering, how well Win 2k was with games. Is it like NT4.0 some games will work and some dont? Right now on my PC at home I am running Win95b, and was considering dumping Win95 and installing Win2K.

Or should I wait until Win2K has been out for a while? Before I install this OS.

What other problems am I likely to be confronted with when I make this change? What have been some of your experiences with Win2K?

Thank you for your time
Steve

I have been running W2K and have had minimal problems running games, I have 2 machines running final retail release and I have been playing Madden 2000 and NBA Live 2000 on both and the only one giving me any problems seems to be a HW issue or simply a driver for my display. But other than that it installed and played beautifully. The problem was on my DELL Inspiron 7500 (PIII 500 Mhz, 128 MB RAM) but the Toshiba TECRA (PII about 400 Mhz, same RAM) runs with no problems. You should but checkwith all your HW vendors and the game manufacturers to see if they have any suggestions or known issues. I had to pull down a BIOS upgrade for my new TECRA just to install W2K.

Win2k is an excellent game station. I have a variety of games running now from high end side like Half Life(excellent internet gaming capability) to ancient versions of baseball. It does support a wide range of them.

The best thing that you can do is install both os (win95/98 and win2k). The most of games will run better on win98, because the DX7 implementation on win2k has some restrictions about the video and audio hardware usage.

In resume, for If you wantto play, use win98

Windows 98 is still the best for games. However, I run 2000 and find only a small percentage will not run without modification.

Win2000 is a great OS, far better than what we have had from MS in the past.

Go to http://ntgamepalace.3dfiles.com/and check for yourself what games will run. That way you can be sure.
