THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!
Win2k Pro SP2 attempting to dial up to my ISP. Dials fine everytime, however first time DNS lookups do not work, either for IE or Outlook etc.
To get it to work, while connected, I need to go into dial up settings for the connection / Networking / select IP then properties. Then Advanced and DNS and then change one of the DNS settings such as “Append parent suffix..”. I then close all the boxes and get the “connection in use, settings will be changed etc.” Next time and subsequently it will work fine until next reboot.
Points to note:
* The above does not work if not connected at the time! i.e. if I do this before trying to connect or having closed the connection it has no effect.
* The above works 100% of the time.
* I have only to change a setting, it does not matter which one, and so I effectively change it back to what it was on the previous boot.
* I have tried static DNS entries and server assigned
* I have other PCs that work fine with same ISP
* Same result to all dialup connections from that machine
* Have created several dial up entries from scratch, same problem
* This problem occurs every time, and the above solution works every time but is time consuming.
It is blowing me awaybecause the fix is independent of the change made, I just need to change something WHILE the connection is open.
HELP!!!
