run the upgrade report , on the cdrom located at i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly

or download via the web http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/professional/howtobuy/upgrading/compat/ready.asp

to see if you have any compatibillity issues.

I had try running the i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly several times. It will not run. It just hangs-up during the process.

Try a reinstall. If you get the same error, try swapping the RAM from a machine that worked. Then redue the install.

Unfortunately that is not a choice at this time. But perhaos this would resolve this issue. I will post the result when I find the solution.

Try checking out your system with Norton Utilities.

Even better yet, do yourself a favor, wipe the harddrive completely with an fdisk and install on a clean harddrive, remove every last vestige of that horrible excuse for an OS, Windows 98!

Sorry, that is not but a last option. Too many applications installed on this system. But yopu are right, that will fix the problem.

The main reason I suggest doing a complete wipe and reinstall is that every time I have done an upgrade (and I did a number of them before I learned better) it came back to haunt me. I started having the weirdest, most inexplicable problems with the upgraded machines. I inevitably ended up reloading them anyway, and always at the worst time, which ended up costing me ten times the trouble and stress than if I had reloaded to begin with. But maybe now that 2K is on SP2 it will work better. Iam just the type of guy that burns my hand on the stove and regardless of how many people tell me it is not turned on, I am very tentative about touching the burner again. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself had I not made my best attemptat warning you.

I appreciate the input. But, like I
said to the last answer, thatv is not an option for this particular workstation. And eventhough your suggestion does allow me to install Win 2K in this hard drive, there are too many things installed too reinstall everithying. Thanks.
