I recently set up a Win2k VPN server and am having problems with Win98SE clients. I am able to connect through the VPN with no problem but once I am connected I get incredibly slow response time when telneting to our Alpha our using our email client (it connects to the Alpha via IMAP). The connections we have been testing have all been cable modems. If I connect a Win2k Pro client via the same connection I have no problems at all. Through 98SE it seems as though data is being returned in chunks. If I am using telnet to connect to the Alpha and have it display a 100 character file to the screen there is no problem. If I have it type a 2000 character file to the screen it returns one screen full of data, sits and spins for 30 seconds or so and then returns another screen full of data. I’m just crossing the great divide from the world of programming to the world of networking so please forgive me if there is some obvious setting that I have missed on the client or server. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
