Win XP - disk boot failure please insert system disk

By markus-lillebuen ·
I reinstalled my win system and when i had done that i booted my computer and then this message came on my screen; Disk boot failure - please insert system disk.
So i can't log onto my computer without the CD.
I ve tried to reinstalled a couple times but, booted the bios but nothings working.

Anyone know why - and know how to fix it?

Thank u

Markus!

There's a non OS CD in the Disk drive or that all other drives (floppy, usb) are empty.

Make sure the boot sequence in your BIOS is put with CD-drive as first and HDD as second.

If you have more than one HDD, make sure the PC boots up the one with the OS.

Couple of suggestions

Download and peruse Greg Shultz's excellent Jan'06 TR post:

Microsoft has some Knowledge Base bulletins that may be helpful:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945380/en-us

But when all is said and done, it may be simpler and quicker to wipe the hard drive, reformat and then attempt to reinstall Windows XP.

1) Download the free utility Darik's Boot and Nuke from:

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

2) Download free CD burner software to create a bootable C

http://cdburnerxp.se/

3) Follow the instructions to create a bootable C

4) Download the free Seagate HD utility:

5) Create a bootable CD with the Seagate HD utility, run the HD diagnostics, and if the HD is healthy, format NTFS.

6) Reinstall Windows XP
