Win XP forgets password on local machine

I support 70 remote users. Since upgrading to XP Pro, some of the units seem to forget their passwords at the local machine level and for the user to log on, they have to authenticate directly to the network at log on. After that, the local machine seems to remember the password and the user can then access their local machine without connecting directly to the network. Anyone else experience this problem? Any suggestions?
