win xp @nsw conflict

I have been running win xp pro;and am unable to install norton systemworks. I recieve an error msg. cannot read subscription data.please re-install. I have not been able to fix. I removed win/me from the system and installed xp this time.The firsttime I installed xp I wrote over win me. nsw installed properly that time. Could removing win me from my system cause this conflict. thanks
