IS there a diskette in the floppy drive?
This is probably the most common reason for the error.

This error occurs when ntdetect.com is either missing or has become corrupt. Copy Ntdetect.com from the most recently installed service pack, or from the Windows 2000 Setup boot disk if no service packs have been installed. you could also install w2k again in a different directory. Hope this helps. Email me if you need a step by Step

DO NOT install the win2k in another Dir.

If it is not a floppy in the floppy drive

1)check the BIOs settings and make sure the bios recognises the disk at it's correct parameters.

If (1) fails then:
2) Use an emergency repair Disk (ERD)
If (2) fails:
3)use a bootable Win2k CD to boot into the recovery console then type FIXBOOT

If (3)fails then:
4)use the bootable Win2k CD to boot into the recovery console then type FIXMBR

If (4) fails
5) you should boot in Fast Recovery

If (5)fails:
6)you will need to reinstall win2k "over the top" by selecting to install a new copy and the pressing R to repair when the system detects that their is an existing install

Good luck

PS the order is important
