By mshjohorean ·
Hai..
Currently, my company had established one web site call www.haj-e.com running win2k server & micosoft sql server. We are going to revamp the site to enhanced the site by putting some portion called e-community, e-halal, web based email etc. One of our consultant recommended us to move to Linux server environment. Please explain.

I would find out specifically from that consultant what benefits and capabilities that the Linux box will give you over running your sites on NT. Both platforms have there plusses and minuses.

If you are only familiar with the windows environment then stick with it.Linux has a steep learning curve and if you have never used it then I doubt you will be able to integrate it plus sql server will not run on a Linux box.It really depends on what you want to do and how long you have.Price is one thing as you could use one of many sql variants in Linux but then again you have t learn all that, then there is hardware compatibility. As web servers they are stable but they will not like any microsoft products.
