Msconfig doesn't exist nor is there any equivalent on Win2000. You need a 3rd party utility such as one of these.

try this free utility
StartupCop

StartStop

For Win 2000

http://www.insideproject.com/downloads/msconfig2k/msconfig.zip - try at your own risk.

You can also check the entries in the 'Start Up' section for the 'All Users' and your 'User Id' within the Start Menu' 'Programs' section of the 'Documents and Settings' folder. This can also be reached via the 'Start' 'Settings' 'Task Bar and Menu'.

You can also run 'regedit' in the 'Start' 'Run' window and adjust all the relevant entries, take care in this. The entries you want will be under the various registry sections but listed under
'Software' >> 'Microsoft' >> 'Windows' >> 'Current version' >> 'Run' or 'Run Once' delete the entries for programs you donmt want. But take care and do NOT delete anything you are not absolutely sure about as you could stop special drivers for graphics cards and sound cards from running.

You will need to check the entries for HKEY_CURRENT_USER, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and HKEY_USERS

Thanks for the info. I made the entries in the Registry as my reference and uninstalled the programs which I do not need. I am afraid that I might mess up the Registry, so I decided to just uninstall the programs that I do not or rarely use at all.Thanks.

Try AutoRuns from Sysinternals (Freeware!):
