Win95 laptop to Win98 PC Drive Mapping

    Locked

    by rbwillba ·

I am a networking newbie trying to get my laptop running Win95 and my PC running Win98 to talk to one another. I can see both machines in network neighborhood, but I am unable to access files from one to the other. File and print sharing are enabled, so I think I’m just keying in the wrong path. The laptop is named UuLaptop01 and the PC is named g7v2n1. Both hard drives are labelled C. Easy 75 points here for anyone who can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

You have File and print sharing enabled. Then you must have the 2 boxes checked to enable others have accesst to your files and to your printers.Next,Open windows explorer and right click on a folder to wish to share.Find the menu option Sharing and open it.A Properties box opens, click on the sharing tab and click on sharing.then click on Access type, and configure for type of access, read only or full access.close, the folder will appear with a hand underneath the folder indicating it is a shared folder. At the remote Computer open Explorer and Tools and Mapp network drive. Both machines should be in the same workgroup.
Type in the path to the shared folder on the first PC.Example,\\g7v2n1\shared folder.
with the name “shared folde”‘ being the name of the folder you gave to the folder, you wish to allow others to access.you can also, map from My computer or network neiborhood.
