Win98 machine linked to hub then router

    Locked

This is another dumb question….but…I need help. I rent my garage out to a guy from another city who set up an ISP in my hometown. He pays me rent and told me that if I ran the cable from my office to the garage I could hook into the hub and router and get a faster Internet connection. I have done simple networking but somewhere I have screwed up? Can’t get a connection…I have a lan card installed and Cat5 cable that has been tested is installed. Csn you give me step by step instructions on how to get hooked up? THANKS….

As long as the lan card drivers are installed correctly you should be fine. Now you need to log into his network somehow or use the IP address of the router as a gateway. It depends on how his network is set up. I may need more info. to help, but if I were you I would let him fix it!

Did you get the right cable? There is a difference in your UTP Cat 5 cables, some are straight, some are cross. For connection from router/hub to PC you should be using cross cables, connection from hub to router, use straight cables.
