WIN98SE to Stinky Vista Home Premium

By lov2laf ·
I know my old laptop WIN98SE like I know my hand. But the new Vista Home
Premium on my new laptop I have a few issues. It doesn't retain many
settings. My wife is administrator and I am too but w/o a password for me, and
I am set for a standard account. I am the one that adds programs and
such and her employee set the system of users up. How do I switch things
so my wife is a standard user and I am the administrator with full
privileges? I have software loaded and start ups but they are blocked
when I log in as the user. Tres aggravating.

Have her log in using her password...

When she has logged herself in, she can both assign a password to your account as well as escalate your privileges to administrator. You don't want an admin type of account without a password set on it. Once you have the admin privileges, you can go back and set her account to the way you want it.

Yes, it is quite a change moving from Win98 to Vista. Had you worked with XP for a time, the move to Vista wouldn't have been so hard on you. Most of us are resistant to change. We don't like to learn new things. But, give the new system a chance. Once you learn your way around, you'll 'know it like the back of your hand' too.

You do this exactly the same way as you would with 98

Log in with the Administrators Account your Wifes and change your Account Settings from Limited to Administrator.

The switch users and change your wifes account to Limited.
